description | Since the 1982-1983 laws of decentralisation granted them with the competence for the construction and maintenance of lycées (France’s high schools) buildings, French regions have produced rich and voluminous documentary collections which constitute valuable sources for the study of secondary school contemporary architectural heritage. This is illustrated here using two cases of regional archives: those of Pays de la Loire and of Île-de-France. The same types of sources can be found across all regions. The technical archives of the project owner occupy an important place in these funds (works files, plans, models and competition presentation boards), but not exclusively: regional archives also preserve other various documents related to the follow-up of policies instituted in the territories such as the education development and equipment policy, educational and social actions aimed at high school students and institutional communication about it all.The dissemination of the inventory, the organisation of cultural activities based on these archives or even the contribution to publications and workshops or conferences, all contribute to facilitate access to and highlight these sources. |
