Summary:This paper aims to present a brief panopticon on the narratives of European civil wars. It departs from some common problems: its definition in historiography and social sciences, its limits, its characteristics, its endings, and its memories. As a central part of these narratives, it centers mainly on the historiographical debates. Thus, it can be seen how the cathegory « civil war » is the proper one in historiography, facing a reluctant use of it from memorial narratives.
