| Summary: | Formulas which have been copied towards the beginning of the 16th century in the Ottoman Empire are found on the flyleaves of a Persian manuscript preserved in the National Library of France (BNF). The formulas are noted in a manner which is somewhat difficult to decipher; they consist of various ways by which to give different colours to paper. When trying to interpret these formulas, one tries to identify the products which were employed such as the mordant which was used and the way of heating the vat. It appears that these formulas do not belong to any known Persian treatise. They belong to a practice which was established at the end of the 15th century and which differs from recipes that were used to colour fabric. |
