Description
Summary:For any electric vehicle (EV), whether pure, hybrid or fuel cell, the requirements for its electric drive system can be summarized as high power density, high power efficiency, high reliability and low cost etc. In order to meet these requirements, permanent magnet motor and high power density inverter are used. In this article, electric vehicles’ developments, especially EV drive’s, in China since 1996 are summarized. The R&D activity of a high power density inverter for EV drive is presented, which focuses on the performance design, capacitance design of bus support in the variable working conditions and laminated busbar design. The experiments show that the inverter with two 220uF film capacitors can drive 80 kW PM motor with power density of 13.3 kW/l and maximum system efficiency of 92%.
