Summary:The goal of the study to find out why the public librarians need for in-service trai­ning, the extent of their needs, qualifications and what kind of an in-service trai­ning they need. For the collection of data, a questionnaire was applied to the lib­rarians, vice-managers and managers who graduated from librarianship depart- ments of the universities and working for the public libraries in Turkey. The research universe consists the graduates of Department of Information Management and work as librarians, vice directors and directors in the public libraries of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. 243 questionnaires were sent to the managers and librarians out of323. In the research, 106 librarians, 37 directors / vice di­rectors are exemplifıed out of the total number of 143 graduates of Department of Information Management. The questionnaire was applied to all subjects in Ja- nuary and February 2008. The findings of the study indicate that the professio- nal librarians and managers who work in public libraries needs in-service trai­ning.
