| description | A fine paper production company was faced with a workplace accident problem at its paper machine loading stations. Analysis of the loaders’ task led to the identification of several aspects of the problem. Due to variations in the raw material, the loading workers had to adopt different strategies for transportation and handling, and also for cutting the metal ties around the pulp bundles. In addition, the layout of the loading stations was different at the four machines studied, and the training received by the regular and reserve employees also varied, impacting upon their working strategies. Lastly, the priority level of the stations within the company appeared to have a significant impact on the accident rate. The task analysis and recommendations had to take all these parameters into consideration. |
