| Summary: | This article presents an analysis of the main advances and challenges of the Ecological and Economic Zoning (EEZ) of the North Coast of São Paulo State, Brazil, from the territorialities perspective, which are polítical, economic and cultural power relations that configure the territory. The analysis is based on the main issues related to the advances and challenges of the EEZ in Brazil, the EEZ of North Coast implementation, since its approval in 2004 until its revision in 2017, and the testimonies of social actors. The article is organized in four parts. The introduction presents a brief contextualization of the EEZ development as an instrument of the 1981 National Environment Policy and the 1988 National Coastal Management Plan and the theoretical and methodological basis of the research. The second part summarizes the coastal management policy in the state of São Paulo and the EEZ in the North Coast. The third part presents the result of the analysis of the advances and challenges of the EEZ from the territorialities perspective. In the last part the final considerations are presented. |
