| description | The capitalist city in its public dimension of spaces, manifests in contemporaneity an expressive retreat from the impacts of the production of urban space. When considering the public space as a product, it is the result of the interest and disinterest of a group of agents that organize the space of cities, guiding the structuring, especially due to the relationship between use value and exchange value. On the other hand, the public space interpreted as a condition for the realization of everyday life, it contains the determinations and possibilities that sociability provides. In this sense, our proposal is to identify elements that prove the retreat of public space in the city of Ituiutaba, considering that consumption has a significant influence on new forms of public space. For that, the relationship between the abandonment of the constitution of new public squares is worked, linking the discussion about the relationship between use value and exchange value, as well as some impacts of the retreat of the public space in daily life and in social reproduction. It was possible to observe, from the theoretical development and the empirical support, that consumption starts to supplant use, also that control and surveillance started to guide the constitution of new spaces of sociability, thus reducing the public space quantitatively and qualitatively. |
