| description | After the colonial period (1960), sovereign states had to manage the economic relations that existed between them. To achieve this, trade and various forms of integration are the fundamental bases of transnational relations. The study carried out in this area shows that border areas are the keystone of development and integration through cross-border cooperation. The research focused on trade mechanisms, the various forms of integration, integration between Togo and Benin, and cooperation between the two states. To achieve the objectives, the research methodology adopted combines documentary research and field surveys. A total of 76 people were interviewed. The tools and materials used were questionnaires, interview guides, observation grids, a camera and a GPS. The results were analysed and interpreted using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results show that cross-border exchanges in the southern Togo-Benin area are based on several foundations. Despite sharing a state border, these territories have the same geophysical, sociological, cultural and historical realities. Trade involves agricultural, manufactured and craft products and is organised around the main markets, which are the main guarantees of regional integration. |
