Description
Summary:This article proposes an analysis of the recent tourist trajectory of Valparaiso, in relation with the dynamics of heritagization. Valparaiso was a city in crisis at the end of the 1990s; fostered by some structuring projects, heritage and tourism policies were developed, according to new conception of the city. World Heritage listing has accelerated the development of cultural tourism centered on historical spaces recognized by UNESCO, while tourism initiatives contribute to produce a heritage city, both in its landscapes and imaginaries. However, these transformations liked to tourism are controversial (gentrification, eviction, nuisance). Other forms of heritagization, centered on the idea that the city is a cultural landscape, bring about other forms of tourism development, less focused on UNESCO spaces, thus encouraging a diffusion of tourism to the entire city.
