Approaches to the development of durum wheat cultivars (Triticum durum Desf.) with wide variability of the growing season by P. N. Malchikov, M. G. Myasnikova

    Published 2015-07-01
“…The experiments showed that(1) The diversity of durum wheat in the earliness of ripening in the Middle Volga region was determined by pre- dominance of genetic systems other than the system of Vrn genes. (2) Mid-ripening and mid-late genotypes had higher productivity potentials compared to early- ripening ones. In the climatic conditions of the Middle Volga region, it was due to the production of a large foliage surface and photosynthetic potential.(3) The duration of the emergence–heading time span was greatly influenced by the cultivar–air temperature interaction. …”

Spatiotemporal Variation Characteristics of Dry/Wet Spells in Longitudinal Range-Gorge Region of the Tropic of Cancer by JIN Hanyu, CHENG Qingping, REN Yitong

    Published 2022-01-01
“…Under the background of global warming, extreme climate events occur frequently.Understanding the change in precipitation from multiple perspectives is of great significance to the utilization of water resources.Specifically, the daily precipitation data at 24 stations along the Tropic of Cancer in the Longitudinal Range-Gorge Region (LRGR) from 1961 to 2019 are used to calculate 14 wet/dry spell indices. Methods including the revised Mann-Kendall test,Pettitt, and wavelet coherence are adopted to reveal the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of the dry/wet spell indices and their correlation with the large-scale circulation index. The results indicate that:① the wet and dry spells in LRGR of the Tropic of Cancer show a significant decreasing and increasing trend, respectively, especially in the area west of Yuanjiang River and south of the Tropic of Cancer. The change in the wet and dry spell indices of most stations is mainly concentrated in 2002.② The frequency of short-duration wet spells and the contribution rate to annual precipitation demonstrate an increasing trend, and those of the medium-long-duration wet spells demonstrate a decreasing trend;the short-duration dry spells are in decline while medium-long-duration dry spells are rising, and the entire region tends to aridification.③ The extreme dry spell index is closely related to ENSO,and it has a negatively correlated co-occurrence cycle of about six years;the extreme wet spell index is closely related to the summer monsoon of the South China Sea,and it has a positively correlated co-occurrence cycle of about eight years. To sum up,the above analysis shows that dry and wet spell indices in LRGR of the Tropic of Cancer demonstrate an overall trend of aridification, which means that the drought risks are increasing.Their spatiotemporal variation characteristics and local differences may be closely related to the joint influence of the large-scale circulation index, monsoon, and channel-blocking in LRGR.…”

Study on Spatial-temporal Characteristics of Drought Duration and Intensity in Leizhou Peninsula in Recent 50 Years by DU Xiaoxia, TU Xinjun, XIE Yuting, WANG Tian

    Published 2021-01-01
“…In the background of global warming, drought disasters occur frequently, bringing serious impacts on the natural ecosystem, human production and life and social & economic development. Therefore,it is of great significance to analyze and assess regional drought characteristics and study local drought mitigation and disaster reduction decisions and climate change.Based on the meteorological and hydrological data of 12 sites in Leizhou Peninsula from 1970 to 2019,this paper identifies and evaluates the drought events via standardised precipitation-evapotranspiration index (SPEI) and run theory, and analyzes the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of drought duration and intensity in Leizhou Peninsula in recent 50 years combined with curve fitting method, inverse distance weighted spatial interpolation, etc. The results show that:①The monthly SPEI index of the Leizhou Peninsula in recent 50 years showed a decreasing trend in fluctuation. On the time scale of the recent 50 years,it fluctuated with a period of about 10 years, which is related to the influence of ENSO.The SPEI is relatively high in cold event years,on the contrary,in warm event years, the SPEI is low and the drought is serious.②The greater the intensity of drought disaster in Leizhou Peninsula, the smaller the probability.③Due to regional difference, the spatial distribution of drought frequency, intensity and duration showed a gradually increase trend from the northeast to the southwest.④The regional difference of the occurrence frequency of drought of different grades showed that the frequency of moderate drought and above in the central and southern and northeastern regions of Leizhou Peninsula was higher than that in the central and northern regions. In addition, the drought in the southern part of Leizhou and Xuwen County was severe.⑤Droughts occur frequently in spring and winter. In spring and summer, the drought in the northeast and central-south part of the Leizhou Peninsula was more severe, the drought in autumn was more serious in the central-north part of the peninsula, and the drought in winter seriously affected the central-south part of the peninsula.…”
