Hydrothermal Dynamics and Surface Energy Allocation in Subtropical Grasslands by WANG Heng, ZHANG Qingtao, WANG Zhiqiang, WU Xinyu

“…Soil hydrothermal changes are an important part of the study of eco-hydrological processes,and studies on soil hydrothermal changes in grasslands in subtropical coastal areas are relatively insufficient.This paper studied the soil hydrothermal changes and surface energy balance of grassland in a subtropical campus area by using field observation data.The results showed that:① Grassland soil moisture is affected differently by rainfall in the wet and dry seasons,with rainfall causing greater soil moisture changes in the dry season than in the wet season.On 20 December,the daily rainfall was 15.2 mm,and the soil moisture change was 0.12 m³/m³ during the study period.On 1 May,the daily rainfall was 120.3 mm,and the soil moisture change was only 0.11 m³/m³.② In terms of vertical variation in soil water potential gradient,the zero-pass surface of the soil water potential gradient occurs within 10~30 cm in the wet season and around 50 cm in the dry season.③ According to the response of soil moisture to rainfall,soil moisture transport after rainfall in the dry and wet seasons mainly occurs at a soil depth of 0~40 cm.④ The change in soil temperature is greatly influenced by seasonal temperature,and the surface soil temperature gradient is large.In spring and summer,soil temperature decreases with increasing soil depth;in autumn and winter,soil temperature increases with increasing soil depth.⑤ Within two adjacent months,transpiration from grasses is significantly reduced in the wet season relative to the dry season.In terms of energy allocation,although the wet season sees more rainfall and less energy flux,the proportion of latent heat flux is higher,with the proportion of latent heat flux between 0:00 and 6:00 and between 7:00 and 17:00 increasing by 3% and 7% respectively compared with the dry season.This paper examines rainfall and seasonal differences in the hydrothermal dynamics and surface energy of subtropical grasslands,providing information for the study of ecosystems in subtropical coastal zones.…”

“…The dynamic monitoring of lake area not only contributes to the analysis of regional climate change scenarios,but also provides reliable data sources for regional water resources assessment.Based on the multi-source satellite data from 1986 to 2019,this paper extracts the water area of Hala Lake,and analyzes the inter-decadal,inter-annual and annual dynamic changes and their causes of the Hala Lake in the last 36 years in combination with the observation data of Delingha and Tuole meteorological stations around Hala Lake.The results show that:The area of Hala Lake decreased first and then increased between 1980s and 2010s,among which the area decreased slowly from 1986 to 2001,and then expanded from 2002 to 2019.The average area is the smallest in 1990s and the largest since 2010.Within a year,the lake area first decreased and then increased in the past three years.The lake area in 2019 was larger than that in the previous two years,except in April and December when was about the same as that in 2018,and the difference between the maximum and minimum monthly area in the past three years was 10.08 km² and 12.52 km² respectively.The area with obvious changes in the shoreline is located in the southeast and southwest of the Hala lake.After the analysis of meteorological and glacier data,it indicates that the climate in the Hala Lake shows a warming and humidifying trend from 1961 to 2018,with the temperature rising rate of 0.4 ℃/(10a) (R=0.296),and the precipitation increasing rate of 19.3 mm/(10a) (R=0.562,P<0.01).Therefore,it can be concluded that the climate warming and humidifying and the reduction of glacier area together lead to the expansion of the lake area,which is mainly caused by precipitation.…”

“…The Dongjiang River is the most important water source area in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,supplying water for the three mega-cities of Hong Kong,Shenzhen,and Guangzhou.The Dongjiang River Basin has abundant light and heat resources and sufficient rainfall,and it is one of the regions with the highest forest coverage rate in China.Since 1980,the land cover,especially the forest with the largest proportion in the Dongjiang River Basin,has changed significantly in the Dongjiang River Basin under the influence of natural factors,policy,and economic development.Therefore,how to scientifically plan and design afforestation projects and transform water conservation forests according to potential has become a hot social issue.The study was based on 30 m resolution land use and soil data of the Dongjiang River Basin from 1980 to 2020,and it combined with the data of Dongjiang River Source station and socio-economic index data.The study used spatial analysis and factor analysis to explore the spatial-temporal changes and driving mechanisms of forest cover in the Dongjiang River Basin from 1980 to 2020 and analyze the potential of water conservation forest reconstruction in the future.① From 1980 to 2020,the forest decreased continuously in the Dongjiang River Basin,with a total reduction of 998.81 km².The changes were mainly concentrated in the south and north of the Dongjiang River Basin.In the northern part of the basin,a great deal of forest has been transformed into farmland,while in the southern part of the basin,a great deal of forest has been transformed into cities and countrysides or areas for industry,mining,and housing.② In the period of 1980—2020,the main factors affecting the change of forest area were the number of permanent residents,population density,GDP,output value of secondary and tertiary industries,output value of industry,agriculture,and forestry,total retail sales of social consumer goods,investment in fixed assets,and urban registered unemployment rate.③ The area for future reconstruction in the Dongjiang River Basin was 5 365 km².The areas with high potential for reconstruction were mainly in the north and southeast parts of the basin.In the past 40 years,the forest area of the Dongjiang River Basin has continued to decrease and is strongly influenced by human activities.Water conservation forest has great potential to be transformed.…”
