First microscopic and molecular identification of Cryptosporidium spp. in fat sand rats (Psammomys obesus) in Egypt and their potential zoonotic implications by Sara Abdel-Aal Mohamed, Fatma A. S. Anwar, Ahmed Gareh, Marwa M. I. Ghallab, Remigio Martínez, Asmaa Aboelabbas Gouda, Fatemah Enad Alajmi, Hind Alzaylaee, Ignacio García-Bocanegra, Ignacio García-Bocanegra, Ehab Kotb Elmahallawy, Ehab Kotb Elmahallawy

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Notably, the phylogenetic analysis identified Cryptosporidium parvum (C. parvum) in the sequenced samples, likely originating from the rats’ native habitats. These identified species have been deposited in GenBank™ under the accession numbers OM817461 (C. parvum FSA-1), OM817462 (C. parvum FSA-2), and OM817463 (C. parvum FSA-3) and revealed closed genetic identity with those species reported from human and other animal species in the same geographic location.ConclusionOverall, this study represents the first morphological and genetic identification of C. parvum isolated from fecal samples of fat sand rats trapped from periurban areas in Egypt. …”

Canvas support impregnation materials and techniques: a study of Portuguese painting and its conservation issues by Andréa Carolina Teixeira

    Published 2016-03-01
“…This paper focuses on the study of oil based coating impregnations, applied in the past, on the reverse of Portuguese painting canvas supports. The scientific study of the impregnation materials found in the painting “The Knight of the Order of Malta” (18th century) was carried out on samples using several analytical techniques – Optical Microscopy (OM) under visible reflected and polarised light and ultraviolet fluorescence (UV); Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy (transmission and FTIR-ATR), and Scanning electron microscopy coupled with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) – in order to identify the materials and the techniques used in this practice.…”
