Time-varying channel estimation in OFDM systems based on multiple symbols BEM by Yong DING, Shan OUYANG, Yue-lei XIE, Jun-zheng JIANG, Xiao-mao CHEN

    Published 2017-03-01
“…In view of the problem of low frequency spectrum utilization for the time-varying channel estimation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems based on basis expansion model (BEM),a new method based on multiple symbols BEM was proposed.Compared with the conventional method based on single symbol, the proposed method reduced the subcarriers for pilots. And by means of the baseline tilting technique, the new method mitigated the Gibbs phenomenon caused by Fourier series expansion. The theoretical analysis reveals that the channel model error is reduced due to the introduction of the baseline tilting technique when the normalized Doppler frequency is no more than <inline-formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mfrac> <mrow> <mfrac> <mn>1</mn> <mn>2</mn> </mfrac> <mo>−</mo><mfrac> <mn>1</mn> <mi>M</mi> </mfrac> </mrow> <mrow> <mn>1</mn><mo>+</mo><mfrac> <mrow> <msub> <mi>N</mi> <mi>g</mi> </msub> </mrow> <mi>N</mi> </mfrac> </mrow> </mfrac> <mtext> </mtext></math></inline-formula>.Finally,the numerical simulation shows that compared with conventional methods, the proposed algorithm achieves significant improvement on the estimation error performance and bit error rate (BER) performance under the conditions of the corresponding time-varying channel.…”

Underwater acoustic OFDM channel equalization based on virtual time reversal mirror by Yan-ling YIN, Gang QIAO, Song-zuo LIU

    Published 2015-01-01
“…To solve the problem of the severe inter-symbol interference of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication caused by underwater acoustic multipath channel,a virtual time reversal channel equalization scheme was proposed.VTRM was able to shorten the channel impulse response and alleviate the phase distortion caused by the acoustic channel for its characteristic of the temporal compression and phase conjugation in frequency domain. The matching pursuit (MP) algorithm was applied to estimate the channel impulse response which could estimate the channel amplitude, time delay and phase accurately. It provided the channel information for the VTRM channel equalization. It also improved a lot compared to the traditional matching correlation channel estimation method which couldn't estimate the channel phase and the estimation precision was low.The simulation, pool trail and Songhua lake experiment show that the performance of VTRM channel equalization is better than that of the PTRM and LS channel equalization in the OFDM underwater acoustic communication.…”

Piecewise-linear companding transform for peak-to-average power ratio reduction of OFDM signals by YANG Pin-lu, HU Ai-qun

    Published 2011-01-01
“…In order to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) signals,a piecewise-linear companding transform was proposed.Small amplitudes were multiplied by a scale factor, while large ones were not only multiplied by a scale factor but also added by a shift. The resulting companding transform was piecewise-linear and continuous. It can provide significant PAPR reduction performance with low compu-tational complexity, and has low influence on system performances through piecewise transform. It is shown by theoreti-cal analysis and simulation that,a good trade-off between PAPR reduction and bit-error-rate performances can be achieved by carefully choosing the two scales and the shift.Furthermore, compared with existing linear and nonlinear companding transforms,a better power spectral density performance can be achieved.…”
