Experimental study on the settling of irregularly shaped sediment particles from the source region of the Yangtze River
Published 2025-02-01“…The measured terminal velocities are compared with five empirical formulas. It is shown that the formulas of Dietrich, Haider and Levenspiel, and Wu and Wang are favorable to use (within the range ±20% of the measured data), whereas Zhang's formula and van Rijn's formula may considerably overestimate the terminal velocity, as no shape descriptor is incorporated to account for irregular shape effects. …”

DYNAMIC CRUSHING PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS FOR AUXETIC HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE
Published 2016-01-01“…Firstly the finite element method of ANSYS /LS-DYNA was applied to examine the deformation modes of multi-re-entrant honeycomb and re-entrant honeycomb under different impact loads, where the physical mechanism for the auxetic effect on improving the dynamic crushing strength is revealed. Then the empirical formula of the dynamic crushing strength was deduced based on the classical theory model, where comparisons with the finite element results revealed the effectiveness of the proposed empirical formula. …”

Study on the side friction resistance capacity of prefabricated pipe piles in coral reef strata
Published 2025-01-01“…Based on the distribution law of the pile SFR, this study establishes a modified formula for calculating SFR of the pile in coral sand, which is verified by comparing the calculated SFR capacity of driven piles of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge with the results of the field test piles. …”

A novel and fast crash simulation method: Revolutionising racetrack safety barrier analysis
Published 2025-03-01“…The study details the ‘bottom-up’ approach for developing a mass-spring model for soft-body simulation and the development of an FE model of the tyre barrier system used in Formula One racetracks. Results from both numerical methods are validated against physical test results by comparing the vehicle's peak acceleration, rebound velocity, maximum intrusion into the barrier, and CORA rating. …”
