Clinical implication of NT-proBNP to predict mortality in patients with acute type A aortic dissection: a retrospective cohort study
Published 2025-01-01“…We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) among this critically ill population.Design The design of this study was a retrospective cohort study.Setting The study population was recruited in the Emergency Department of Fuwai hospital in China from 2018 to 2020.Participants We consecutively enrolled 829 patients with acute type A aortic dissection and measurable baseline NT-proBNP.Primary outcome The primary endpoint was 1-year all-cause death. Results Based on tertiles of NT-proBNP (pg/mL), patients were stratified into low (≤150.3, n=276), intermediate (150.3–667.6, n=277) and high (>667.6, n=276) NT-proBNP groups. Compared with patients with low NT-proBNP, the Kaplan-Meier estimates for primary 1-year mortality were higher in intermediate (32.5% vs 18.1%; HR 1.91, 95% CI 1.35 to 2.69) and high (42.0% vs 18.1%; HR 2.56, 95% CI 1.84 to 3.57) NT-proBNP groups, respectively. …”

Prognostic nutritional index as a predictor of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in American adults with hypertension: results from the NHANES database
Published 2025-01-01“…Multifactorial COX regression analysis showed all-cause mortality [hazard ratio (HR): 0.584, 95% CI: 0.523–0.652, p < 0.001] and cardiovascular mortality (HR: 0.435, 95% CI: 0.349–0.541, p < 0.001) associated with Q4 group risk of malnutrition in PNI compared to Q1 group. RCS curves showed a nonlinear relationship between PNI and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality (both non-linear p < 0.001).ConclusionsLower PNI levels are associated with mortality in patients with hypertension. …”

Outcome of critically ill patients receiving systemic chemotherapy on the intensive care unit
Published 2025-01-01“…Hematological patients had a significantly higher median Simplified Acute Physiology Score II (47 vs. 39 points; p=0.013), a higher need for invasive mechanical ventilation (59% vs. 50%; p=0.3), renal replacement therapy (54% vs. 24%; p < 0.001), and a higher 1-year mortality rate (64% vs. 53%; p=0.2) compared to solid tumor patients. The hazard ratio for 1 year survival for male sex was 2.34 (1.31–3.49), for mechanical ventilation 2.01 (1.33–3.04), for vasopressor therapy 1.98 (1.27–3.10), and for renal replacement therapy 1.51 (1.03–2.23), respectively.ConclusionAdministering intravenous chemotherapy in an ICU setting remains challenging, and the experience to establish an indication for systemic chemotherapy is still challenging. …”

Dual role of ramR mutation in enhancing immune activation and elevating eravacycline resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae
Published 2024-12-01“…Then, the CRISPR‐Cas9 technology was employed to construct specific ramR mutations into K. pneumoniae, which were then subjected to phenotypic and functional assays in both in vitro and in vivo (mouse models, macrophage, and blood‐killing experiment) settings. ramR L58P and F165L genetic alterations disrupt the binding affinity of RamR to the ramA promoter, thereby upregulating the efflux pump expression and increasing ERV minimum inhibitory concentration values up to 64‐fold compared to the wild‐type. Concurrently, these mutations modulate lipid A structure by increasing 2‐hydroxy fatty acid chain abundance. …”

Effects of Mixing Tree Species on Soil Enzyme Activity and Carbon-Use Efficiency in Eroded Masson Pine Forest
Published 2024-12-01“…[Results] (1) With the increase of restoration years, soil acid phosphatase (AP) and β-glucosidase (βG) activities were significantly reduced, while C∶NEEA (βG∶NAG), vector length (VL) and vector angle (VA) of the mixed forest were lower than that of pure forest, while C∶PEEA (βG∶AP) and N∶PEEA (NAG∶AP) showed the opposite trend, indicating that long-term mixing is beneficial to alleviate the carbon limitation and phosphorus limitation of microorganisms. (2) Mixing was beneficial to improve CUE and significantly increased with the increase of forest age. Specifically, compared with that of Y39-CF and Y19-MF, CUE of Y39-MF significantly increased by 200.00% and 136.84%, respectively. (3) By analyzing the characteristics of soil enzyme activity and the relationship between CUE and environmental factors, it was found that soil carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus availability was an important influencing factor, mainly affecting AP activity, C∶PEEA, N∶PEEA, VL, VA and CUE, while the stoichiometric ratio of soil nutrients mainly affected βG activity and C∶NEEA. (4) The results of redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that the ratio of fungi and bacteria mainly affected the characteristics of soil enzyme activity and CUE in the mixed forest, while the main influencing factors in pure forest were actinomyces and Gram-negative bacteria. …”
