Impacts of Skill Centrality on Regional Economic Productivity and Occupational Income
Published 2022-01-01“…We find that occupations with higher skill centrality are associated with greater annual salaries, and metropolitan areas with higher skill centrality have higher productivity rates. Overall, these results suggest that the application of traditional network metrics to this view of cities as complex networks can offer new insights into the dynamics of regional economies.…”

Muted Amazon Rainfall Response to Deforestation in a Global Storm‐Resolving Model
Published 2025-02-01“…Previous studies have found that complete deforestation reduces evapotranspiration, contributing to low precipitation rates that would limit the regrowth of the forest, but such studies have used climate models with convective parameterization and/or fixed large‐scale circulation. …”

The tale of the rattle: Using rattle size to understand growth and sexual dimorphism in an insular population of rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus caliginis)
Published 2024-07-01“…Here, we used a large database of rattle segment sizes recorded from island (Isla Coronado Sur, Baja California, Mexico) and mainland (Camp Pendleton, California, United States) populations of Western Rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus and C. o. caliginis) that separated approximately 10,000 years ago to compare body sizes at different ecdysis cycles, which allowed us to assess differences in growth rates and patterns of sexual size dimorphism. Our results show that rattlesnakes on Isla Coronado Sur appear to be born smaller and grow more slowly than their mainland counterparts, resulting in a “dwarfed” island population. …”

Effect of transport stress on apoptosis and autophagy in goat lung cells
Published 2025-07-01“…IntroductionRoad transportation exposes goats to thermal, mechanical, and microbial stressors that can compromise their welfare by triggering pulmonary apoptosis and autophagy processes associated with tissue damage and immunosuppression.MethodsTo explore potential biomarkers for transport-related welfare assessment, this study analyzed lung tissues from nine Ganxi goats (n = 9; 0 h control, 2 h/6 h transport groups) through an integrated experimental approach: TUNEL assays quantified apoptosis rates, immunohistochemistry mapped protein localization, Western blotting analyzed protein expression levels, and qPCR profiled gene expression of apoptotic regulators (Bax, Bcl-2) alongside autophagy-related markers (LC3B, p62, PINK1, Parkin).ResultsResults indicated time-dependent cellular stress patterns, where the 2 h group displayed elevated apoptosis rates, while the 6 h group exhibited upregulated Parkin expression (p < 0.05) and altered regulation of apoptotic [Bcl-2-associated X-protein (Bax)/B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2)] and autophagy-related genes (Microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3B (LC3B), p62, PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1)/Parkin). …”
