Unveiling the hidden effect of multi-morbidities on the severity of Covid-19: a latent class analysis approach
Published 2025-04-01“…Abstract Background Epidemiological studies showed that Covid-19 patients with underlying diseases had higher rates of severe Covid-19. Previous studies focused on the presence of a single chronic disease but this study investigated the prevalence and patterns of multi-morbidities in patients with Covid-19 and its relationship with the severity of Covid-19. …”

The tale of the rattle: Using rattle size to understand growth and sexual dimorphism in an insular population of rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus caliginis)
Published 2024-07-01“…Here, we used a large database of rattle segment sizes recorded from island (Isla Coronado Sur, Baja California, Mexico) and mainland (Camp Pendleton, California, United States) populations of Western Rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus and C. o. caliginis) that separated approximately 10,000 years ago to compare body sizes at different ecdysis cycles, which allowed us to assess differences in growth rates and patterns of sexual size dimorphism. Our results show that rattlesnakes on Isla Coronado Sur appear to be born smaller and grow more slowly than their mainland counterparts, resulting in a “dwarfed” island population. …”

Leveraging U-Net and ASPP for effective fault detection in photovoltaic modules
Published 2025-07-01“…Additionally, the U-Net-ASPP_Cent and U-Net-ASPP_Diag configurations provided IoU gains of 1.18% and 1.96%, respectively, while also reducing false positive rates. These results highlight the effectiveness of incorporating region-specific dilation strategies, enhancing the model’s ability to detect diverse and challenging fault patterns in complex thermal imagery. …”

The role of spatially controlled cell proliferation in limb bud morphogenesis.
Published 2010-07-01“…By developing a parameter optimization approach (which explores spatial patterns of tissue growth) our computer simulations reveal that the observed distribution of proliferation rates plays no significant role in controlling the distally extending limb shape, and suggests that directional cell activities are likely to be the driving force behind limb bud outgrowth. …”

Parasite spatial distribution shapes parasite aggregation on host populations, but not at high parasite density
Published 2025-06-01“…Our work suggests that fine‐scale spatial patterns of parasites can play a strong role in shaping how hosts are parasitized, particularly when parasite density is low‐to‐moderate and recovery rates are slow.…”
