Unveiling the hidden effect of multi-morbidities on the severity of Covid-19: a latent class analysis approach
Published 2025-04-01“…Abstract Background Epidemiological studies showed that Covid-19 patients with underlying diseases had higher rates of severe Covid-19. Previous studies focused on the presence of a single chronic disease but this study investigated the prevalence and patterns of multi-morbidities in patients with Covid-19 and its relationship with the severity of Covid-19. …”

The tale of the rattle: Using rattle size to understand growth and sexual dimorphism in an insular population of rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus caliginis)
Published 2024-07-01“…Here, we used a large database of rattle segment sizes recorded from island (Isla Coronado Sur, Baja California, Mexico) and mainland (Camp Pendleton, California, United States) populations of Western Rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus and C. o. caliginis) that separated approximately 10,000 years ago to compare body sizes at different ecdysis cycles, which allowed us to assess differences in growth rates and patterns of sexual size dimorphism. Our results show that rattlesnakes on Isla Coronado Sur appear to be born smaller and grow more slowly than their mainland counterparts, resulting in a “dwarfed” island population. …”

Association between healthcare resources, healthcare systems, and population health in European countries
Published 2025-05-01“…The models did not find statistical significance in the effects of healthcare system type (Beveridge-type or Bismarck-type) on life expectancy at birth or infant mortality rates. Additionally, Welch’s t-test indicated that the Beveridge-type healthcare system generally showed better performance outcomes compared to the Bismarck-type system. …”

Leveraging U-Net and ASPP for effective fault detection in photovoltaic modules
Published 2025-07-01“…Additionally, the U-Net-ASPP_Cent and U-Net-ASPP_Diag configurations provided IoU gains of 1.18% and 1.96%, respectively, while also reducing false positive rates. These results highlight the effectiveness of incorporating region-specific dilation strategies, enhancing the model’s ability to detect diverse and challenging fault patterns in complex thermal imagery. …”

Trend analysis and epidemiological forecasting of colorectal Cancer mortality among reproductive-age women in sub-Saharan Africa
Published 2025-08-01“…This study aimed to analyze CRC mortality trends, identify key driving factors, and predict future mortality patterns among women of childbearing age in SSA. Methods: We assessed CRC mortality among women of childbearing age across four SSA subregions and 46 countries, calculating age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC). …”

Mapping of the Antinuclear Autoantibodies in Sudanese patients infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus after HAART receiving: A cross-sectional study
Published 2025-07-01“…Interestingly, a high proportion of positivity for ANA were found in the older subject groups (aged 42-56 years and > 57 years), with rates of 80% for each. Furthermore, our study also showed that the predominant ANA patterns were nuclear fine-speckled (AC-4, 56.5%) followed by cytoplasmic fine granules (AC-20, 24.7%). …”

The evolution of irreversible cell differentiation under cell death effect.
Published 2025-01-01“…We show that irreversible differentiation is more likely to occur when cell death rates between cell types are linear. Meanwhile, differences in death rates between cell types affect the emergence conditions of irreversible differentiation, whereas no significant impacts on that from equal cell death rates. …”
