Study on the Influence of T Stress Component on the Tensile Initiation Angle of Compression-shear Closed Crack by JIN Songyang, LIU Hui

    Published 2020-01-01
“…The traditional theory of fracture mechanics only considers the singular stress term in the Williams expansion term of the stress field at the crack tip. There is a big difference between the theoretical predicted value and the experimental value of the crack initiation angle. In order to study the influence of T-stress (non-singular stress term) on the tensile initiation angle of compression-shear closed crack, this paper firstly derives the theoretical solution of the stress near the closed crack tip under the condition of compression-shear stress, and introduces the T-stress into the traditional fracture criterion for correcting the maximum circumferential stress criterion;secondly, carries out the parameter sensitivity analysis for the three cases considering different T-stress components;finally, compares the theoretical predicted value with the experimental value in existing literature. The results show that:The T-stress component has a significant influence on the predicted value of initiation angle of closed crack. It is found by the parameter sensitivity analysis that the critical distance has the greatest influence on the crack initiation angle. At the same time, the predicted value of initiation angle with considering Tx,Ty and Txy stress components is between that with only considering Tx stress component and considering Tx and Ty components, and with considering of three T-stress components, the predicted value of initiation angle is in good agreement with the experimental values.…”

The Tensile Strength of Loess in Northwest China by Unconfined Penetration Test and the Distinct Element Simulation by Xuyang Wu, Yun Bao, Mingyang Ren, Qingguo Liang

    Published 2021-01-01
“…The experiment and numerical simulation results show the following: (1) the split angle (α) presents an exponential decrease with tensile strength (σt) and a linear decrease with internal friction angle (φ); (2) K that can be written as tan (2α + φ) is a coefficient to calculate tensile strength, which is equal to 2.00 for remolded loess and 1.50 for undisturbed loess; (3) the distinct element simulation shows that the resisting force by the UP test comes from both tensile stress and shear stress; (4) the tensile fractures and shear fractures appear at almost the same time when the tensile stress is approximately 70% of tensile strength.…”
