Performance of International Global Models and Official Tropical Cyclone Forecasts Over the Bien Dong Sea for the Period 2012–2019
Published 2024-01-01“…This research validates tropical cyclone (TC) forecasts from the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting of Vietnam, the Regional Specialized Meteorological Center (RSMC) Tokyo, and global models (the Japanese Meteorological Agency [JMA], global spectral model [GSM], the National Centers for Environmental Prediction [NCEP], Global Forecast System [GFS], and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts [ECMWF] Integrated Forecasting System [IFS]) for 72 activated TCs over the Bien Dong Sea. The best quality track forecasts come from the IFS and then GFS and GSM, while the GFS provides a good intensity forecast compared to IFS and GSM. …”

Acoustic Velocity Log Numerical Simulation and Saturation Estimation of Gas Hydrate Reservoir in Shenhu Area, South China Sea
Published 2013-01-01“…Gas hydrate model and free gas model are established, and two-phase theory (TPT) for numerical simulation of elastic wave velocity is adopted to investigate the unconsolidated deep-water sedimentary strata in Shenhu area, South China Sea. The relationships between compression wave (P wave) velocity and gas hydrate saturation, free gas saturation, and sediment porosity at site SH2 are studied, respectively, and gas hydrate saturation of research area is estimated by gas hydrate model. …”

Giant pit craters on the modern seafloor above magma-induced hydrothermal vent complexes of Scotia Sea, offshore Antarctica
Published 2025-01-01“…We present geophysical data documenting at least 150 large (km-scale) craters on the modern seafloor across ∼148,000 km2 of Scan Basin in the southern Scotia Sea, a remote region offshore Antarctica. Seismic and bathymetric information reveals the craters relate to vertical fluid pipes extending above dome-shaped forced folds and saucer-shaped igneous sills. …”
