Unique composition and evolutionary histories of large low velocity provinces by James Panton, J. Huw Davies, Paula Koelemeijer, Robert Myhill, Jeroen Ritsema

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Abstract The two “large low velocity provinces” (LLVPs) are broad, low seismic wave speed anomalies in Earth’s lower mantle beneath Africa and the Pacific Ocean. Recent research suggests they contain relatively dense subducted oceanic crust (SOC), but the relative concentration of this recycled material within them is an open question. …”

Le bleu du front de mer by Éric Foulquier, Alice Ferrari

    Published 2024-07-01
“…Such is the case of Pointe-à-Pitre whose waterfront is particularly constrained by a palimpsest of previous occupations, where road traffic prevails over pedestrian traffic, where the rusty grey of the buildings largely dominates the blue of the ocean horizons. To objectify this atrophied relationship, this contribution proposes a colorimetric analysis of the seascape as seen from the height of a passer-by strolling along the seafront, based on a panoramic photographic inventory. …”

Sous les vagues bleues, le paysage by Christophe Camus

    Published 2021-12-01
“…We have attempted to reconstruct a part of this invention taking as a starting point the simple notion that most of us, even those of us who are not divers, can now imagine and picture the ocean depths thanks to the efforts of Jacques-Yves Cousteau and other diving pioneers. …”

Research Status and Development Trend of High Strength Steel in Marine Corrosive Environment by WEI Huanhuan, CHEN Chen, ZHENG Dongdong, DU Xiaoyun

    Published 2023-01-01
“…The marine environment has the characteristics such as high humidity and high salinity.Offshore buildings and structures are affected by splash erosion and damage, and durability of steel structure is subject to severe challenges and tests. The failure mechanism of high strength steel in marine corrosive environment, the reliability assessment of structural system, and surface protection technology have received extensive attention from scholars in China and abroad.Based on the division of marine environment, the corrosion causes and damage mechanism of high strength steel, and the relationship between mechanical property degradation and corrosion, this paper discusses the influence of Cl- concentration, temperature and humidity on the mechanical properties of high strength steel in marine environment, combined with the previous simulation research on high strength steel base metal and weld joint in ocean splash zone. The relationship between corrosion cycle and mechanical properties is introduced, and finally the trend and main directions of future research are proposed. It is expected to provide a reference for the in-depth study of localized corrosion behavior of high strength steel in marine environment, the performance optimization of new connection joints and the application of safety protection technology in the future. At the same time,it will provide a strong support for the establishment of life prediction and failure assessment method for high strength steel in marine environment.…”

Impact of Madden-Julian Oscillation on the Diurnal Rainfall Cycle in Peninsular Malaysia by Ayoub Afiqah Bahirah, Liew Juneng, Tangang Fredolin, Jamaluddin Ahmad Fairudz

    Published 2024-01-01
“…The remote impacts of MJO on PM resulted in changes to the diurnal rainfall patterns during the early MJO phases when the primary MJO convection centre remains over the Indian Ocean. These conditions created a conducive environment for local convection over PM due to the weakening of the southwest monsoon winds. …”
