Most Super-Earths Have Less Than 3% Water by James G. Rogers, Caroline Dorn, Vivasvaan Aditya Raj, Hilke E. Schlichting, Edward D. Young

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Although our constraints are agnostic as to the origin of water, we show that our upper limits are consistent with its production via chemical reactions of primordial hydrogen-dominated atmospheres with magma oceans. This mechanism has also been hypothesised to explain Earth's water content, possibly pointing to a unified channel for the origins of water on small terrestrial planets.…”

Autoencoder neural network-based abnormal data detection in edge computing enabled large-scale IoT systems by Tianqi YU, Yongxu ZHU, Xianbin WANG

    Published 2018-12-01
“…Given the advantages of low cost and easy deployment,large-scale Internet of things (IoT) has been deployed for environment monitoring pervasively.Within such systems, cloud platform is typically utilized as a remote data and control center. However, tremendous amount of data uploading and processing induce huge challenges on bandwidth load and real-time data gathering. In order to overcome these challenges, edge computing enabled IoT system architecture was proposed for environmental monitoring. As the intermediate layer, local processing could be supported for end devices with low latency and assist with preliminary analysis to offload computational tasks from cloud and the amount of data uploading could be reduced.Based on this system architecture,an autoencoder neural network-based abnormal data detection scheme was developed newly.Performance evaluation has been conducted based on the practical oceanic atmospheric data.Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can accurately detect the abnormal data by fully exploiting the spatial data correlation.…”

Research Progress on Mechanical Characteristics of Vertical Cylinders under Internal Solitary Waves by XU Ming, WANG Yin, LING Ming, HU Kelong, XIONG Xiahui, PENG Daosong, XU Jinyao, JI Yong

    Published 2022-01-01
“…Internal solitary waves represent a common physical phenomenon in water bodies such as oceans, coasts, and estuaries. They are induced by external disturbances on a pycnocline in a stably stratified water body, and the shear flow excited during their propagation is accompanied by huge energy, which poses a serious threat to the safety and stability of underwater engineering structures. Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the laws of interaction between internal solitary waves and engineering structures. On the basis of summarizing the research progress of many scholars both at home and abroad, the common methods for studies on the action characteristics of internal solitary waves on structures are introduced from the aspects of physical experiments and numerical simulations. In addition, this study gives a summary of the research results in the characteristics and laws of the horizontal force, vertical force, and moment on vertical cylinders under internal solitary waves and the sensitivity factors of the horizontal force. Finally, the issues that require further attention in follow-up research on mechanical characteristics of vertical columns umder internal solitary waves are raised.…”
