What do double-check routines actually detect? An observational assessment and qualitative analysis of identified inconsistencies by Yvonne Pfeiffer, Chantal Zimmermann, David L. B. Schwappach

    Published 2020-09-01
“…., mismatching information, and to better understand the nature of these inconsistencies.Design In observing checking procedures, field noteswere taken of all inconsistencies that nurses identified during double checking the order against the prepared chemotherapy.Setting Oncological wards and ambulatory infusion centres of three Swiss hospitals.Participants Nurses’ double checking was observed.Outcome measures In a qualitative analysis, (1) a category system for the inconsistencies was developed and (2) independently applied by two researchers. Results In 22 (3.2%) of 690 observed double checks, 28 chemotherapy-related inconsistencies were detected. …”

The Dependency of Diffusion Coefficients and Geometric Factor on the Size of the Diffusing Molecule: Observations for Different Clay-Based Materials by Elke Jacops, Marc Aertsens, Norbert Maes, Christophe Bruggeman, Rudy Swennen, Bernd Krooss, Alexandra Amann-Hildenbrand, Ralf Littke

    Published 2017-01-01
“…The variation of the geometric factor can also be described by an exponential function. The observed experimental relations can be used to estimate diffusion coefficients; by measuring experimentally in clay the effective diffusion coefficient of two unreactive dissolved gases with a different size, the diffusion coefficients of other dissolved gases (with a size in between the two measured gases) can be estimated by using the fitted exponential relationship.…”

Observational Study on the Characteristics of the Boundary Layer during Changes in the Intensity of Tropical Cyclones Landing in Guangdong, China by Fei Liao, Ran Su, Pak-Wai Chan, Yanbin Qi, Kai-Kwong Hon

    Published 2019-01-01
“…Since the structure of the tropical cyclone boundary layer significantly influences the variation of the intensity of the cyclone, continuous observations of the wind profile radar at a coastal radar station in Guangdong Province were combined with aircraft observation data of the No. 1604 “Nida” cyclone to analyse the variations in the distributions of the radial wind, tangential wind, and angular momentum in the typhoon boundary layer and the similarities and differences between the boundary layers of the 11 tropical cyclones during the strengthening or weakening of their intensities. …”

Optimal velocity estimation model based on non-differential Doppler observations from BDS-3 satellites by Zejie WANG, Qianxin WANG, Tianwen SHANG

    Published 2021-12-01
“…An optimized velocimetric model based on non-differential Doppler observations from BDS-3 satellites with high accuracy and low model complexity was proposed to address insufficient accuracy and low efficiency of velocity estimation method. The observation data from BDS-3 satellites was used to estimate the carrier velocity by using Doppler velocimetric model with low complexity. In order to improve velocity estimation accuracy and solving efficiency, firstly, the model was linearized, and then loose constraints was added based on the correlation between the carrier heading and its velocity vector. The velocity measurement accuracy of the model was verified with field-collected BDS-3 observations, and the applicability of the model was evaluated. The experimental results show that: when the carrier is stationary, the optimized Doppler velocimetry accuracy can reach cm/s or even mm/s level, and in the comparison with the original Doppler velocimetry, the horizontal velocity accuracy was improved by about 60% and the solution time was shortened by 24%;when the carrier is moving, the Doppler velocimetry accuracy with heading constraints can be improved by 14% ~ 21% in north and east compared with the original Doppler velocimetry, and the solution time was improved by about 20%.…”
