Numerical Simulations of the Impact and Spreading of a Particulate Drop on a Solid Substrate by Hyun Jun Jeong, Wook Ryol Hwang, Chongyoup Kim

    Published 2012-01-01
“…The Navier-Stokes equation is solved by a finite-element-based computational scheme that employs the level-set method for the accurate interface description between the drop fluid and air and a fictitious domain method for suspended particles to account for full hydrodynamic interaction. Focusing on the particle effect on droplet spreading and recoil behaviors, we report that suspended particles suppress the droplet oscillation and deformation, by investigating the drop deformations for various Reynolds numbers. …”

Research on Flow Regime Hydraulics of Sluice-Passing Flows in Reconstruction Design of Large Sluice in Meandering River Channels by ZHANG Zhouwen

    Published 2022-01-01
“…Large sluices in meandering river channels have large sluice-passing flow rates and turbulent flow regimes during floods, and downstream energy dissipaters of the sluice cannot be easily repaired once they are damaged by erosion.Taking the reconstruction of the Jimei Sluice as a research project, this paper tries to solve the problem that how to make the reconstructed sluice avoid the large scour pit that has a size of 50 000 m2 and a maximum depth of 23 m and is formed by the erosion of current downstream stilling pools. In addition, the paper uses the technical route of changing the layout of the sluice opening and the angle between the sluice axis and the river channel centerline and establishes a two-dimensional hydrodynamic mathematical model to analyze the water level,sluice-passing flow regimes, and erosion. The results of the comparison find that the angle between the sluice axis and the river channel centerline is 88° (rotating counterclockwise by 2°),and the full-depth sluice scheme is suitable. The research ideas and methods can provide a reference for similar projects.…”
