Impact of Climate Change on Hydrologic Extremes in the Upper Basin of the Yellow River Basin of China by Jun Wang, Zhongmin Liang, Dong Wang, Tian Liu, Jing Yang

    Published 2016-01-01
“…To reveal the revolution law of hydrologic extremes in the next 50 years and analyze the impact of climate change on hydrologic extremes, the following main works were carried on: firstly, the long duration (15 d, 30 d, and 60 d) rainfall extremes according to observed time-series and forecast time-series by dynamical climate model product (BCC-CSM-1.1) were deduced, respectively, on the basis that the quantitative estimation of the impact of climate change on rainfall extremes was conducted; secondly, the SWAT model was used to deduce design flood with the input of design rainfall for the next 50 years. …”

Study on Temporal and Spatial Evolution of Extreme Precipitation in Niululing Reservoir Basin of Hainan Province by XIAO Jing, MO Shuping, LIN Youwen, XIE Weining

    Published 2023-01-01
“…According to the precipitation data of 11 rainfall stations from 1979 to 2020,the Mann-Kendall (MK) trend test, moving t-test,and wavelet analysis were used to analyze the spatial distribution, trend, abrupt changes, and periodicity of eight extreme precipitation indicators in Niululing Reservoir Basin. The results show that:①PRCPTOT,SDII,R50,and R100 in the basin gradually increase from upstream to downstream, and the spatial distribution of other indicators has no significant regularity.②The eight extreme precipitation indicators diverge in trend and fail the MK test. The PRCPTOT,CWD,R50,and R99PTOT show an increasing trend, while the other indicators show a decreasing trend.③The PRCPTOT,SDII,R50,and R100 in the basin had abrupt changes in 2008,and CWD,Rx1day,and Rx3day had abrupt changes in 1999,1998,and 2006,respectively.R99PTOT underwent abrupt changes in 1998 and 2015.④There are two or three periodic signals in the eight extreme precipitation indicators in the basin.Except R100 and R99PTOT,the average periods of the first and second periods of the other six extreme precipitation indicators are 19 a and 14 a,and those of R100 and R99PTOT are 10 a and 19 a.…”

Increasing extreme hourly precipitation risk for New York City after Hurricane Ida by Carolien Mossel, Spencer A. Hill, Nihar R. Samal, James F. Booth, Naresh Devineni

    Published 2024-11-01
“…The stormwater infrastructure in NYC is built for 1.75 inches (44.5 mm) per hour, and so understanding the dynamic risk associated with Ida can inform city planning efforts for climate change’s impact on short duration extreme precipitation events. We contextualize this storm’s record-breaking hourly intensity within the historical record as well as project its risk in the near- to medium-term future using nonstationary stochastic models. …”
