Colonial breeding impacts potentially fitness-relevant cognitive processes in barn swallows by Angela Medina-García, Ellen Scherner, Molly T. McDermott, Mark E. Hauber, Rebecca J. Safran

Published 2024-03-01
“…However, the effects of social breeding on the evolution of cognitive processes remain largely unknown. We tested the hypothesis that facultative colonial breeding influences attention and decision-making. …”

Persistent homology based topological analysis on the gestalt patterns during human brain cognition process by Zaisheng LIU, Fei NI, Rongpeng LI, Honggang ZHANG, Chang LIU, Jiefang ZHANG, Songyun XIE

Published 2021-07-01
“…The integrated development of information communication technology and neuroscience heralds the possibility and great potential of brain-to-brain wireless communication(B2BC).The physiologically meaningful features of brain responses were extracted to different contour and shape in images in Gestalt cognitive tests by combining persistent homology analysis with electroencephalogram (EEG).The experimental results show that more brain regions in the frontal lobe were involved when the subject perceives the random and disordered combination of images compared to the ordered Gestalt images.Meanwhile, the persistence entropy of EEG data evoked by random sequence diagram (RSD) was observed to be significantly different from that by the ordered Gestalt images(GST) in several frequency bands, which indicated that human cognition of shapes and contours, such as a preliminary advanced cognition process, could be separated to some extent through topological analysis. This method can digitize the neural signals while preserving the whole and local features of the original signals. In general, the cognitively related neural correlates by persistent homology features of EEG signal are revaluated and quantified, which provides an approach to realize the digitization of neural signals in brain-to-brain wireless communication.…”

Psilocybin-assisted massed cognitive processing therapy for chronic posttraumatic stress disorder: Protocol for an open-label pilot feasibility trial. by Shakila Meshkat, Richard J Zeifman, Kathleen Stewart, Reinhard Janssen-Aguilar, Wendy Lou, Rakesh Jetly, Candice M Monson, Venkat Bhat

Published 2025-01-01
“…
Background
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affects 3.9% of the general population. While massed cognitive processing therapy (CPT) has demonstrated efficacy in treating chronic PTSD, a substantial proportion of patients still continue to meet PTSD criteria after treatment, highlighting the need for novel therapeutic approaches. …”

A Pilot Study on Cognitive Processing Characteristics and Cerebral Mechanisms of Native Chinese-Speaking Savant Calendar Calculators with Autism Spectrum Disorder by CHEN Jian, XU Shutian, WU Yuwei, CHEN Songmei, SHAN Chunlei

Published 2024-04-01
“…ObjectiveTo analyze the cognitive processing characteristics of a native Chinese-speaking savant calendar calculator (SCC) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to investigate the related brain mechanisms with cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).MethodsOne native Chinese-speaking ASD patient with SCC features was assessed with the randomized calendar calculation test, the adjusted new calendar memory ability test, the numerical calculation ability test, the judgement of line orientation (JLO) test, the apraxia examination (orofacial apraxia, speech apraxia, and ideomotor apraxia examination), the frontal assessment battery (FAB), and the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA). …”
