A Darker Shade of Pale: Webster’s Winter Whiteness by Annaliese CONNOLLY, Lisa HOPKINS

    Published 2015-06-01
“…On the face of it, we are offered a clear and absolute opposition between black and white in which black, predictably, is bad, and white, equally predictably, is good. We argue, however, that it is actually white which is represented as the more sinister of the two colours, for reasons connected to the plays’ interest in the bodies and behaviour of rulers, specifically James I’s scheme for the annexation of Russia and his reburial of his mother, Mary, Queen of Scots.Reading the plays in relation to these two contemporary events, we argue that in his two great tragedies Webster prises open the instability of the term “white” to lay bare a tension between the spiritual and the material which reveals the darker side of whiteness.…”

Research of the Effect of Profile Deviation on Contact Characteristic of Helical Gear by Luo Tao, Qin Xunpeng, Huang Jinjing

    Published 2015-01-01
“…In order to study the influence of profile deviations on the contact characteristic of the helical gear, the involutes equation containing the profile form deviation and profile slope deviation is deduced. On the meanwhile,a finite element model containing tooth profile deviations is established.Based on this finite element model, the effect law of the profile form deviation and profile slope deviation on the maximum contact stress, bending stress and load distribution is obtained. The result suggests that the contact strength and bending strength of gears is reduced by the profile form deviation and profile slope deviation and the load distribution status is changed. When the profile form deviation is larger than 5μm or the profile slope deviation equals to ±0.5°,the gearwill gradually change tooth meshing number from three to two, then two to one, which brings certain impact on the carrying capacity of gear.…”

Channel estimation of UFMC system in multipath channel by Xiang YU, Yanni GAO, Sirui DUAN

    Published 2018-04-01
“…As a candidate waveform of 5G,universal filter multi-carrier (UFMC) technology could inhibit out-of-band radiation, achieve loose synchronization and well support the short bursts of things in the transmission. However,in the UFMC transmission without cyclic prefix (CP),inter-symbol interference (ISI) and subcarrier interference (ICI) are generated in the multipath fading channel, which will affect the estimation accuracy in channel estimation. The interference of the UFMC system in multipath channel was firstly analyzed. After using the feedback equalization suppression ISI,the self-elimination algorithm was used to suppress the ICI according to the similarity between adjacent carriers, and the pilot coefficients were designed according to the UFMC system. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed method applied to the UFMC can suppress the interference, improve the accuracy and reduce the bit error rate.…”
