The “Triangle” Sign: A Novel Ultrasound Marker for Diagnosing Total Choroidal Detachment and Total Suprachoroidal Hemorrhage by Bhatt VD, Bhatt DC, Bhatt KD, Dabir S, Berendschot TTJM, Erckens RJ, Webers CAB

    Published 2025-01-01
“…It also validates the sign’s efficacy in distinguishing between choroidal detachment (CD) and suprachoroidal hemorrhage (SCH) from retinal detachment (RD) and vitreous hemorrhage (VH).Patients and Methods: Retrospective analysis of consecutive cases of total CD and SCH undergoing B-scan at a single tertiary imaging center. The study examined the presence of the “Triangle” sign (a hypoechoic/anechoic triangular shape of vitreous noted anterior to the optic disc) in total CD & SCH, categorized cases by subtype and etiology, and its role in differentiating from RD and VH.Results: Thirty-six eyes with a total CD and SCH were analyzed. …”

Analysis of Water Surface Ratio Evolution in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Based on Landsat by JIANG Xintong, LIAO Xiaolong, QUAN Xujian, XUE Jiao, ZHONG Yixuan, YU Baishun

    Published 2022-01-01
“…An appropriate urban water surface ratio plays a vital role in improving the ecological quality of urban areas and the quality of urban living space.By RS and GIS technology, the research takes the free and open source optical remote sensing data,Landsat images,as the data source and uses the normalized difference water index (NDWI) and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) to construct an automatic water body discrimination model. In this way,we can analyze the evolution of the water surface ratio in the core cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) in the past two decades. The result analysis reveals that in the past 20 years, the water area of the Greater Bay Area has been decreased by 136 km2,and the water surface ratio is reduced from 4.48% to 4.22%.Among the cities in the Greater Bay Area, the city with the largest reduction in the water area is Jiangmen, with a decline of 44.20 km2,and its water surface ratio falls from 6.10% to 5.62%.Foshan follows Jiangmen, with a water area decrease of 32.34 km2,and its water surface ratio drops from 13.17% to 12.32%.The water area in Macao,Hong Kong,Huizhou, and Zhaoqing demonstrates a fall of not more than 10 km2,and that in Guangzhou and Shenzhen is reduced by not more than 20 km2.By the transition matrix analysis of land use types in the Greater Bay Area,we can uncover the main reason for the decline in water area—that is,the increase in construction land invading the original water area. The result of this paper can provide theoretical and methodological support for the rational use of water resources and the construction of water ecology in the cities of the Greater Bay Area.Meanwhile,it can offer an important reference for promoting the construction of ecological civilization and strengthening environmental protection in the Greater Bay Area.…”

Physicochemical properties of biochar produced from biodegradable domestic solid waste and sugarcane bagasse by Nguyen Loc, Tran Thanh, Do Thi My Phuong

    Published 2023-07-01
“…Between the two biochar, at the same pyrolysis temperature, the sugarcane bagasse biochar possessed lower EC values (118.93 - 126.17 µS/cm) and carbon content (37.42 – 38.8%), but higher CEC values (18.62 - 20.12 cmol/kg) and iodine number (424.04 - 261.34 mg/g) than the biodegradable domestic solid waste biochar. SEM images of sugarcane bagasse biochar exhibited greater porosity than the biodegradable domestic solid waste biochar at both pyrolysis temperatures. Conclusion The results implied that sugarcane bagasse biochar have better potential to be used in applications including the improvement of soil characteristics, the removal of contaminants from aqueous media, and the remediation of contaminated soil. …”

Ag(I) camphorimine complexes with antimicrobial activity towards clinically important bacteria and species of the Candida genus. by João M S Cardoso, Soraia I Guerreiro, Andreia Lourenço, Marta M Alves, M Fátima Montemor, Nuno P Mira, Jorge H Leitão, M Fernanda N N Carvalho

    Published 2017-01-01
“…None of the tested compounds inhibited C. albicans growth, being this attributed to the ability of these yeast cells to mediate the formation of less toxic Ag nanoparticles, as confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscopy images. The high antibacterial and anti-Candida activities of the here studied camphorimine complexes, especially of complexes 1 and 7, suggests a potential therapeutic application for these compounds.…”
