Experimental Study on Characteristics of Seismic Damage and Damping Technology of Absorbing Joint of Tunnel Crossing Interface of Soft and Hard Rock by Dao-yuan Wang, Jin-xiu Yuan, Guang-yao Cui, Jia Liu, Hong-fan Wang

    Published 2020-01-01
“…The following findings can be drawn. (1) The seismic damage of tunnel is mainly affected by stratum inertial force under the homogeneous stratum of soft rock. The seismic damage of tunnel is mainly caused by the forced displacement (the displacement difference between the two sides of interface of soft and hard rock), followed by stratum inertial force under the geological condition of interface between soft and hard rock. (2) The conventional type of absorbing joint (only the second lining is set with absorbing joint) is used in tunnel lining structure, and the damping ratios of principal tensile stress, bending moment, and axial force of lining are above 47.5%, 40.7%, and 72.7%, respectively. …”

Achieving high strength-ductility synergy in Mg-6Sn-3Zn-0.3Zr (wt.%) alloy via a combination of casting, pre-treatment and hot extrusion by Tianshui Zhou, Yaqin Li, Feifei Guo, Qinglin Li, Zhi Jia, Dexue Liu

    Published 2024-11-01
“…Moreover, the results suggest that the combination of pre-treatment and hot extrusion not only promotes multiplication of geometrically-necessary dislocations (GNDs) but enhances dynamic precipitation, which boosts the formation of fine and homogenous precipitates. Based on the results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), the precipitates are Mg2Sn phases. …”

Characterization of Congolese Woody Biomass and Its Potential as a Bioenergy Source by Maryse D. Nkoua Ngavouka, Tania S. Mayala, Dick H. Douma, Aaron E. Brown, James M. Hammerton, Andrew B. Ross, Gilbert Nsongola, Bernard M’Passi-Mabiala, Jon C. Lovett

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Minimal statistical analysis of wood biomass showed that parameters such as volatile matter (VM), carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and calculated HHV have low variability, suggesting the biomass is relatively homogeneous. However, moisture and nitrogen showed significant standard deviations, indicating variability in storage conditions or sample nature. …”

The Hubble Tension in Our Own Backyard: DESI and the Nearness of the Coma Cluster by Daniel Scolnic, Adam G. Riess, Yukei S. Murakami, Erik R. Peterson, Dillon Brout, Maria Acevedo, Bastien Carreres, David O. Jones, Khaled Said, Cullan Howlett, Gagandeep S. Anand

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) collaboration measured a tight relation between the Hubble constant ( H _0 ) and the distance to the Coma cluster using the fundamental plane (FP) relation of the deepest, most homogeneous sample of early-type galaxies. To determine H _0 , we measure the distance to Coma by several independent routes, each with its own geometric reference. …”
