Industry of employment and occupational class in relation to cardiovascular health by race/ethnicity, sex/gender, age and income among adults in the USA: a cross-sectional study
Published 2024-04-01“…Yet, few studies have included racially/ethnically diverse samples. Methods Using 2004–2018 National Health Interview Survey cross-sectional data, we investigated standardised occupational classifications in relation to ‘ideal’ CVH using a modified ‘ideal’ CVH (mICVH) metric among US adults (n=230 196) by race/ethnicity, sex/gender, age, and income. mICVH was defined as a report of ‘yes’ to the following: never smoked/former smoker; body mass index (≥18.5–25 kg/m2); physical activity (≥150–300 min/week moderate or ≥75–150 min/week vigorous); sleep duration (7–9 hours/night); and no prior diagnosis of dyslipidaemia, hypertension, or diabetes/pre-diabetes. …”

Medium term health and quality of life outcomes in a cohort of children with MIS-C in Cape Town, South Africa
Published 2025-01-01“…This score was used to evaluate the School Functioning, Social, Emotional, and Physical QOL domains.ResultsAll participants with previous MIS-C made a full recovery, with no medical complaints, and normal physical examinations after a median of 705 days post acute diagnosis. The PedsQL inventory revealed that 16.7% of the children with previous MIS-C showed a deficit in the physical domain compared to 60% of the children with JIA (p < 0.001). 12.5% of the children with previous MIS-C had a deficit in their psychosocial domain which included emotional, social, and educational scores, compared to 40% of the children with JIA (p = 0.035).ConclusionsIn a cohort of 24 South African children with previous MIS-C, no medical complications were reported. …”

Integrating deep learning in public health: a novel approach to PICC-RVT risk assessment
Published 2025-01-01“…BackgroundMachine learning is pivotal for predicting Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter-related venous thrombosis (PICC-RVT) risk, facilitating early diagnosis and proactive treatment. Existing models often assess PICC-RVT risk as static and discrete outcomes, which may limit their practical application.ObjectivesThis study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of seven diverse machine learning algorithms, including three deep learning and four traditional machine learning models, that incorporate time-series data to assess PICC-RVT risk. …”
