Analysis of Evolution of the Wetland Ecosystem of the Liaohe River Nature Reserve over the Past 40 Years and Its Driving Factors by SUN Xiangru, CHEN Jiabo, WANG Yanjie

    Published 2021-01-01
“…The wetland in the Liaohe River Nature Reserve has played a crucial role in pollutant purification and biodiversity protection for the Liaohe River Basin. This paper reviews the evolution of the wetland ecosystem of the Liaohe River Nature Reserve over the past 40 years and analyzes the major factors driving the process, and puts forward measures for wetland conservation and prospects for future research. The results show that:From 1980 to 2010,the total wetland area showed a decrease trend.Except for the protected area at the estuary of the Liaohe River, the Liaohe River Nature Reserve suffered scarce plant resources and extremely low diversity of plant species, making it unsuitable to serve as a breeding habitat for most birds and fishes. From 2010 to 2020,with the rapid recovery in wetland area, the macro plant structure and diversity improved significantly, resulting in a substantial increase in bird and fish populations.Major natural factors driving the changes of wetland include temperature and precipitation, while human factors such as agricultural development, water project construction, oil and gas exploration, urbanization, and exotic species invasion play a central role in the process.Currently, key measures such as strictly guaranteeing ecological water demand,re-planting aquatic vegetation in land-water cross bedding and open water areas, and conducting integrated control of exotic species invasion through physico-chemical and ecological prevention measures should be taken to promote wetland conservation. The future research should focus on wetland developmental mechanism of the Liaohe River Nature Reserve based on the basin scale.…”

Entropic imprints on bioinformatics by Ismail Mageed

    Published 2024-12-01
“…Undoubtedly, entropy has a great imprint, which has already changed the way we should think of Bioinformatics based on its multi-faced nature, whether being looked at from an angle of physics, information-theoretic, thermodynamical, chaotic-led approach, and a bird-eye view of a computing perspective. The flow of the current review continues by showcasing the entropic fingerprints on Bioinformatics, resulting in many exceptional discoveries that have enormously added to the existing knowledge. …”

Combining OpenStreetMap with Satellite Imagery to Enhance Cross-View Geo-Localization by Yuekun Hu, Yingfan Liu, Bin Hui

    Published 2024-12-01
“…Cross-view geo-localization (CVGL) aims to determine the capture location of street-view images by matching them with corresponding 2D maps, such as satellite imagery. While recent bird’s eye view (BEV)-based methods have advanced this task by addressing viewpoint and appearance differences, the existing approaches typically rely solely on either OpenStreetMap (OSM) data or satellite imagery, limiting localization robustness due to single-modality constraints. …”

    Published 2024-12-01
“…Pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli are an important object of surveillance within the One Health concept in the wild, agriculture and human society. Migratory bird colonies and high latitude avian colonies may be points of active intraspecies and interspecies contact between different animal species, accompanied by the spread of pathogens. …”

Social mates dynamically coordinate aggressive behavior to produce strategic territorial defense. by Nicole M Moody, Cole M Williams, Sohini Ramachandran, Matthew J Fuxjager

    Published 2025-01-01
“…However, if simulated intruders are less threatening, residents are more likely to defend solo, where only one bird deploys defensive behaviors. Overall, our study supports the hypothesis that nonhuman animals can pattern their behavior in a strategic and coordinated manner, while demonstrating the power of systems approaches for analyzing multiagent behavioral dynamics.…”

Hooded crows (Corvus cornix) manufacture objects relative to a mental template by Anna A. Smirnova, Leia R. Bulgakova, Maria A. Cheplakova, Sarah A. Jelbert

    Published 2024-04-01
“…All three crows ripped paper pieces from the same colour material as the rewarded template, and, crucially, also manufactured objects that were more similar in size to previously rewarded, than unrewarded, templates, despite the birds being rewarded at random in both tests. Therefore, we found the ability to manufacture physical objects relative to a mental template in yet another bird species not specialized in using or making foraging tools in the wild, but with a high level of brain and cognitive development.…”
