Description
Summary:Background. Choana atresia is a "red flag" diagnosis that requires further examination for possible concomitant abnormalities, as children with this condition often have complex comorbidities that can significantly affect their prognosis, treatment options, and anesthetic risks. Aim. To evaluate the structure of concomitant pathology in children with congenital choanal atresia. Materials and methods. The study included 114 patients aged 1 month to 18 years who were admitted to the Otorhinolaryngology Department of the Research Clinical Institute of Pediatrics named after Academician Yu.E. Veltishchev of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University with a diagnosis of choana atresia. Results. 114 children (69 girls and 45 boys) were treated and observed for AC, the average follow-up period was 36 months. Almost all children have certain pathological conditions in the ENT organs or other organs and systems. Conclusion. The results of the study, conducted on a sufficient number of patients, show that congenital choanal atresia is often associated with both hereditary genetic conditions and other isolated abnormalities.
