Description
Summary:This article aims to enlighten the vital presence of the triple cultural heritage present in Semprun’s work, whose first language is Spanish, and to show the relationship he has established with French and German. We intend to discuss this way of living otherness and linguistic exile in the literary fact. This will lead us to the analysis of memory and identity issues developed by the author. Our presentation is concerned with the understanding of the reasons and consequences of the choice of another language in this case French or German in an intimate and intrinsic activity such as writing; this reproduces an experience of survival and becomes a sort of refuge in which he refuses to feel stigmatized. It is in its authentic experiences of exile, violence, suffering, experienced in several languages, but reported in French, that he has found the leitmotiv for most of his books.
