Description
Summary:This study aims to examine the effectiveness of AI-assisted instruction versus traditional coach-led tactical instruction in enhancing football tactical learning among male college students. Using a crossover experimental design, 43 male college students participated in both traditional tactical analysis training and AI-assisted tactical analysis training, which integrated the ChatGPT language model and the Metrica PlayBase visualization system. Pre- and post-tests were conducted to assess tactical knowledge comprehension, tactical decision-making ability in match scenarios, and learning satisfaction and interest. The experiment consisted of two phases, with a two-week washout period implemented to control for order effects. All data were analyzed using paired-sample and independent-sample t-tests. The results showed that compared with traditional instruction, AI-assisted instruction led to significantly greater improvements in tactical knowledge comprehension (t = 8.16, p < .001), tactical decision-making ability (t = 10.09, p < .001), and learning satisfaction (t = 11.17, p < .001). Score gains following AI-based training were notably higher than those following traditional training, and the crossover validation further confirmed the practicality and superiority of AI instruction. This study not only demonstrates the potential of AI technologies in physical education, but also provides empirical and theoretical support for developing an intelligent tactical instruction model based on the pathway of language guidance, visual comprehension, and strategic decision-making.
