Description
Summary:Background: Periodontal emergencies are characterized by being painful, sudden and of short duration, requiring dental emergency services. Objective: Describe periodontal emergencies in patients from the Northern Area of Sancti Spíritus. Methodology: A retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was carried out from January to June 2023. 87 patients were selected who attended the Emergency Service of the Sancti Spíritus Provincial Teaching Stomatology Clinic in this period, with a diagnosis of periodontal emergencies. The variables used were age, sex and periodontal emergencies; absolute numbers and percentages were used as indicators. Results: The largest number of patients were in the 19-34 year old group (33.3%), female (56.3%). The largest number was affected by aphthous stomatitis (44.8%), followed by periodontal abscess (32.1%) with a high incidence in the group aged 60 and over. Conclusions: Aphthous stomatitis, followed by periodontal abscess, were the most frequent periodontal emergencies in the study.
