| description | This article provides a selective review of research on the uses of digital communication in youth cultures. It focuses on four aspects : the specificity of the privileged communication platforms by young people during the 2000s ; the important role they played in the exploration of relational life ; the excesses that can result in the publicizing of friendships and romantic relationships on these platforms ; the reconfiguration of fan networks. Finally, this article seeks to highlight some ambiguities regarding the integration of digital technology in the youth community and to remind us to stay vigilant in the face of overly optimistic characterizations of its evolution in several recent studies of digital communications. |
