description The disappearance of the USSR can be explained as the result of a combination of economic, political and social factors. This article seeks to propose a new interpretation for the event by showing that the political crisis in the USSR is the translation of a social crisis in the form of a crisis of social reproduction within the CPSU. More precisely, it deals with the question of the economic and political consequences of the important increase in the number of graduates, i.e. the phenomenon of inflation of school diplomas in the USSR. In this particular context of social crisis, studying the social itineraries of individuals entering politics towards the end of the 1980s allows to account for the political transformations in the USSR.
