Since 9/11, the role of intelligence has actually been reinforced and with about $70 billion spent on intelligence every year, the intelligence community now plays a crucial part in the Global War on Terror. No president can ignore this, not even Donald Trump, who has had a very adversarial relationship with the intelligence community since he was elected. The purpose of this analysis is not to study the so-called ‘Russian affair’ because the investigation into the possible manipulation of the 2016 presidential election is still ongoing. Rather, the aim is to consider how Trump, in spite of his ignorance and mistrust of intelligence, expects the intelligence community to be loyal and more aggressive in the fight against terrorism. |
