Summary: | With the return to school, a child leaves the intimacy of the affectionate sphere in his room to enter a new social life by integrating with the public sphere of the school institution. The aim of this paper is to bring to light how children's literature picture books bear witness to this moment, producing representations that attribute roles to this private childhood space on the eve of this rite of passage. The representations of the bedrooms in these works reveal the prescriptions associated with this ceremony. Whether they are the backstage preparations of the future pupil before his appearance on the public scene, or a laboratory of emotions where the child's apprehensions are expressed, these snapshot scenes generate discourses that reveal the tensions existing between growth and success when facing of the stakes of becoming a student, and take part in the socialization process of young child and parents. |
