| Summary: | The aim is to highlight the importance of cinema as a ‘collective art’ under the Weimar Republic, based on speeches, essays and articles by film professionals (directors, screenwriters, composers and film technicians) that appeared in the press of the time, particularly in the corporatist journal Filmtechnik – Filmkunst (Film Technique, Film Art). An examination of these texts, most of which have not been translated, reveals a collaborative conception of film-making, but also shows the specific positioning and demands of the various trades, particularly scriptwriters and composers. It also reveals a lively understanding of filmmaking that is probably rooted in a conception of art linked to Germanic culture and, more specifically, to a Goethean heritage. |
