Description
Summary:This article examines the relations between the press and Olympe Audouard, a writer and founder of several periodicals under the second empire and at the beginning of the Third Republic. Sources that come from the daily press and from literary and cultural periodicals show the reactions of this professional milieu to a woman’s ambitions. Her itinerary, fraught with tensions between progressive and conservative thoughts, sets the question of men and women sharing a professional milieu still connected to the literary world and of the resistance that women and notably Olympe Audouard encountered. The various angles developed in this article introduce her production and her difficulties, the interest that the press gave to her “media image”, and the general thinking of difference and of sex identity of this period.
