Description
Summary:Around forty years ago, the fragments of two marble oscilla (decorative plaques with reliefs on both sides), as well as fragments of around twenty terracotta antefixes were discovered on a limited area, on the land of the “Villevoison” farm in Saint-Cloud-en-Dunois, in Beauce Dunoise. In 2023, aerial photographic coverage of this sector showed that we were at the location of a small fanum, quite close to a Roman road and approximately 400 m from a large villa already known by aerial surveys. In this article, we propose to publish this discovery, particularly remarkable in inner Gaul and in a rural context. The architectural decorations concerned will be described, analyzed in their local context, and compared to external elements of comparison, both for the oscilla and for the antefixes. An evocation of the fanum, with its decor and its environment, will ultimately be proposed.
