Description
Summary:Since the 2000’s, cultural clusters have emerged in major cities and urban areas in France. At the same time, these urban areas have been physically and symbolically transformed and redeveloped, both through urban renewal policies and from projects stemming from creative city initiatives. The intersection of these two phenomena on these territories has led to a significant reconfiguring of representations and discourses, as well as the modes of organization and of action implemented by local networks of cultural actors. Focusing on three musical clusters in France, this article highlights the importance of power relations and boundary objects in the processes of emergence and practice of cultural clusters. When it becomes primarily a resource for territorial development and urban space enhancement, cluster development appears to act to dismantle or de-structure networks of cultural actors, notably by increasing the invisibility of emerging practices and actors.
