description The article studies the double gloss on Santillana's Proverbios or Centiloquio, depending on the type of commentary and the intention of each one of the commentators. In particular, this work analyses Díaz de Toledo's gloss to the first stanza and how this text is related to other precedents of Alonso de Cartagena, which would demonstrate a direct contact with the materials of Cartagena scriptorium. In the Appendix, I have edited the Castilian version of Leonardo Bruni's epistle to Juan II that quotes Santillana in the Prologue to his work.
