Description
Summary:The creation and dissemination of music and dance specific to the Occitan valleys of Italy is undoubtedly the greatest achievement of the Occitanist movement, since it has helped to create contexts of sociability and promote an image of Occitanism both within and outside the area. The ‘heritage age’ of musical and choreographic practices in the Occitan valleys of Italy can be divided into three main phases: revivalism, trad-innovation and institutionalisation. During each of these phases, the object of ‘Occitan music’ and the ways in which it is transmitted seem to undergo major changes, which are examined in this contribution.
