Comparative Evaluation of Fluid Absorbency of Retraction Cord after Immersing in Two Alpha Adrenomimetic Medicaments—An In Vitro Study

Aim: The aim was to compare and evaluate the fluid absorbency of retraction cord after immersing in ZOAMETTM nasal decongestant and VIZOLINETM eye decongestant. Material and Method: A total of 90 pieces, each 50 mm long, were divided into three groups of 30. Group 1 consisted of untreated cords, whi...

Description
Summary:Aim: The aim was to compare and evaluate the fluid absorbency of retraction cord after immersing in ZOAMETTM nasal decongestant and VIZOLINETM eye decongestant. Material and Method: A total of 90 pieces, each 50 mm long, were divided into three groups of 30. Group 1 consisted of untreated cords, while Groups 2 and 3 involved cords immersed in both solutions for 20 minutes, respectively. Further subgroups were divided based on immersion in artificial saliva and plasma. When immersed in medicaments, a significant difference in the absorption of fluids (artificial saliva and plasma) and between the two solutions was observed. Result and Conclusion: It was concluded that both the agents are safe to be used for gingival retraction; among the two, VIZOLINETM gave more efficient results.
