| Summary: | Dear Editor,I thank Dr. Andrzej Boszczyk for his interest in my article regarding the ankle arthrodesis with a fibular bone autograft and intramedullary nail stabilization in post-traumatic loss of the talus [1]. The title of our article stems from a kind of mental abbreviation that functions among orthopaedists in Poland. However, in the Pubmed database, you can find articles in which tibio-calcaneal arthrodesis is called ankle arthrodesis{2, 3.4]. The problem with determining the appropriate nomenclature is due to the rarity of this particular case. In addition, we consider that the ICD-9 classification does not follow adequately for the development of orthopaedics. To sum up, we agree with Dr. Boszczyk that in the title of our article we should change the name of ankle arthrodesis to tibial-calcaneo-naviculo fusion or arthrodesis. We hope that this discussion will contribute to the unification of nomenclature in foot and ankle surgery.SincerelyJakub Osuch, MD |
