description This article explores the interconnection between the banking system and the urban economy, focusing on the evolution of the Brazilian banking system in terms of the expansion of corresponding banks. Technical and technological modernization promoted an uneven development in the territory, significantly influencing the organization of the urban space and the services offered. After the Financial Reform of 1964, there was an expansion and centralization of bank branches, with São Paulo emerging as the country's main financial center. Since the 1990s, neoliberal policies and privatizations enhanced the concentration of bank branches in the most dynamic regions of the country. Given the reform of the Brazilian Payment System and the new modalities of service, such as Banking Correspondents, from the 2000s onwards, the national financial system increased its expansion, guaranteeing greater access to services in previously unassisted areas. This set of transformations shaped the urban economy and the crucial role that Banking Correspondent services began to play in the financialization of Brazilian territory.
