description | This research aims to describe the representation of orality in fiction by analysing utterances of direct speech. The didactic approach adopted here highlights the concept of “diamesic variation” which is at work in the process of adapting an oral conversation to a written transcription of a speech act. This study mainly analyses the semantics of introductory verbs announcing reported speech, and the composition of preposition and adverb phrases. It also focuses on the way punctuation contributes to representing oral conversations. |
